Commonwealth Games champion Harsh Singh among top judo players to compete at Baku World Championships-2026

India’s Commonwealth Games champion, Harsh Singh gained valuable points in the Lausanne's Grand Slam tournament held in Switzerland on August 28 to 30 to stay on course to compete in the Baku World Judo Championships. Top 100 rank players in each of the weight categories of Senior and Top 16 rank players of Junior categories are eligible to compete in the global competition scheduled to be held from October 4 to 11 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Competing in men’s below 60kg, Harsh Singh got first round bye in Lausanne Grand Slam. He won his second-round match to earn valuable world ranking points. His current world ranking is 84. Harsh is the lone Indian male judo player to have qualified for the Worlds in Baku.

Nine Indian female judo players also have excellent global ranking points and are ranked below 100 in Senior and 16 in Junior of their respective weight groups (as on August 31).

Commonwealth Games champion, Ms. Asmita Dey (below 48kg), Shraddha Kadubal Chopade (below 52kg), Yamini Mourya (below 57kg), Linthoi Chanambam and Himanshi Tokas (below 63kg), Inunganbi Takhellambam (below 70kg) and Ishroop Narang (below 78kg) are top Indian female judo players in Senior Categories and Ms.L. Nunshithoi Chanu, Ms. Kh. Taibanganbi  who will be eligible to compete in the Worlds in Baku by virtue of their global ranking points ( as on August 31).
